Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) movies of the beating three-chamber heart of the African clawed frog tadpole (Xenopus laevis)

Doppler OCT (DOCT) can perform fast imaging of structural and functional parameters of tissue, at near-microscopic resolution and with perfusion-level blood flow sensitivity. In this example, we use a time-domain DOCT system to image the beating 3-chamber heart of the tadpole, and display the resultant structural-only OCT information (for corresponding Doppler images, see movie 2, same album). DOCT's ability to perform fast structural and Doppler imaging will be important for developmental biology, early disease detection, and treatment monitoring studies.
