Dr. Alexandre (Sasha) Douplik is a Head of Medical Engineering Photonics Group of Chair of Photonics Technologies and Head of Clinical Photonics Lab and Principal Investigator of Erlangen Graduate School of Advanced Optical Technologies (SAOT) at Friedrich-Alexander Erlangen-Nuremberg University, Germany. Before that, he was a Senior Scientific Associate at Biophysics/Bioimaging Division in Ontario Cancer Institute of University Health Network in Toronto, Canada and Senior Scientist of Xillix Technologies Corp., Vancouver, Canada. His PhD thesis (Moscow Medical University, Medical Biophysics Department, 1996) dealt with the relationships between physiological and optical properties of human blood. His nineteen years’ experience includes four years as a medical physicist (1989-1993) in the clinic, nine years in the academic environment as a researcher (1993-1999, 2001, 2006-2010) and five years in industry as a research physicist (2002-2006) in the field of experimental and clinical biomedical physics, particularly biophotonics, including both therapeutic and diagnostic applications. His research interests include laser surgery, fluorescence endoscopy, tissue spectroscopy and spectral imaging for cancer diagnostics and therapy, and biomedical applications of nanoscale and metamaterial technologies
