Postdoctoral research position in
Photo-Acoustic Tomography/Biomedical Optics

The ICFO-Institut de Ciències Fotòniques is offering a postdoctoral position to a well-qualified, highly motivated and dynamic young scientist who wishes to enhance his/her scientific career in a friendly and stimulating environment. The successful candidate will be part of a newly funded project carried out jointly by Medical Optics group led by Dr Turgut Durduran and Plasmonic Nano-Photonics group led by Dr Romain Quidant. Our research focuses on translational research bringing biomedical-optical methodologies and nano-photonics from the bench-top to pre-clinical and clinical applications. In particular, the candidate will be responsible for the design and implementation of a 3D photo-acoustic, tomographic imager in oncology models, the relevant data acquisition and analysis as well as in vivo testing on cancer models. This is an multi-disciplinary work which will combine expertise in bio-medical optics, nano-photonics, acoustics, oncology and state-of-the-art imaging modalities. In the long run, these findings will be translated to equivalent studies on humans and are expected to benefit cancer therapy in the clinics. Eligibility and Conditions
Candidates must hold an internationally-recognized Ph.D.-equivalent degree (or evidence of its completion in the nearest future) preferably in bio-engineering, electrical engineering, physics , or related fields. The candidate should have a proven track record of excellence in research. Experience in the following; photo-acoustic tomography, elecro-optic design, general experimental design, light scattering in turbid media, diffuse optics, image reconstruction methods and basic numerical programming (e.g. Matlab, LabView, C/C++) is highly desired.

No restrictions of citizenship apply to the ICFO post-doctoral contracts.
The contract is offered for periods of one year, renewable for a total of up to three years.
