Opto-mechanical engineer

Imagine Eyes is currently looking for an opto-mechanical engineer to join our research and development team. The position requires a professional with excellent written and spoken communication skills (fully bilingual in French and English) that is capable of working in a multitasking/multidisciplinary environment under strict ISO 9001, ISO 13485 and FDA medical standards and regulations.

This newest member of our team will be responsible for the opto-mechanical design of innovative medical and scientific instruments (architecture, parts or sub-systems specification, tolerance analysis, alignment and calibration tooling and procedures).

Responsibilities, amongst others, will include:

  • sub-systems specifications to parts detail drawings;
  • writing and / or executing test plans and procedures;
  • hands-on prototyping and testing;
  • selecting and managing key opto-mechanical suppliers;
  • managing external optical or mechanical design consultants as needed;
  • writing relevant technical documentation (HDD, ATP, ATR…)
  • managing compliance tests for medical standards;
  • providing technical support to the production team;
  • participating in the industrialization process and transferring all useful knowledge to the production team in order to streamline the process.

Education: Graduate level studies (minimum) with a major in optics / mechanical engineering.

Experience: A minimum of 5-years of professional experience in opto-mechanical design of complex systems.

Additionally, the ideal candidate will have:

  • a solid working knowledge of CAD tools;
  • a strong working level of English in order to thoroughly read and write technical documents, communicate and negotiate with foreign suppliers;
  • some knowledge in electronics (a plus);
  • previous experience in the development and transfer to production of medical devices (a plus);
  • knowledge of medical standards (US and EU – security, environment, etc…) applicable to opto-mechanical design of medical device (the candidate must be, or rapidly become, capable of designing a system that meet those standards).

The ideal candidate is equally comfortable with opto-mechanical design, hands-on prototyping, testing, transfer to manufacturing or key supplier management. This person has previously contributed to all phases of the product development cycles of complex opto-mechanical systems.
